Black Tie Dress Code

Black Tie Dress CodeHow to interpret the dress codes on invitations

Deciding what to wear for a party or another type of formal education, social gathering can be quite difficult at times. On occasions less formal dress codes are not so important. Everything really depends on the invitation. If you have been invited verbally by someone you know very well, picking clothes to wear is not so difficult. If you have received a formal invitation so clearly a dress code, however, things can get confusing. The term "black tie" is fairly easy to understand, but what about the rest of the body? How do I know what clothes to wear when the invitation says "casual and elegant?

White tie
When the invitation says white tie, you know you go to an event quite formal. This is the code of the most formal evening dress. White tie so often led to high-end weddings, opera and other types of formal dinners such as the dinner held after the Nobel awards ceremony. The main parts of male attire is the dress, white bow tie and a jacket and starched shirt. Women are expected to arrive in suitable dress for the occasion, like a ball gown.

Black Tie
Black tie is considered semi-formal from its counterpart white tie, but most of us consider very formal black tie. Invitations to weddings are often carriers of this dress code. For men the major component of a black tie dress code consists of a dinner jacket or tuxedo as it is more commonly known in North America. Most often, the tuxedo is black, but you can also decide to go with a dark blue. According to the current fashion, custom and so on, a woman should wear a cocktail dress or a conservative party dress.

Dress
When the invitation calls for a jacket, it is essentially you should wear business suits. Dress purely rational, a jacket is considered an informal place, however, some of us are fairly formal and dressed all the same. There are some general guidelines to consider whether. You should preferably wear a dark suit and not go crazy with colors, or on the jacket, shirt or tie. A white shirt is often the safest and tie little color is preferred. If your suit comes with a vest that's a plus too, it adds to the form ().

Smart casual
Smart casual dress code is poorly defined. It is supposed to look and feel relaxed but still be smart enough to meet the standards of particular social group. Here, you'll have somewhat different choices depending on the type of social event you are attending. Most often, however, composed of smart casual dress trousers - jeans or chinos times - a long-sleeved shirt with a tie optional and if appropriate, you can wear a jacket or sport coat. Women may choose to wear the pants, short skirts or long, or even jeans with a pretty blouse or turtleneck. Keep in mind this formality is very subjective and in some places, the above description of the smart casual will be considered as purely casual, smart casual with requiring a jacket and tie at all times.
