Harley WalletTips for Setting limits: Make Your Own Office

One of the great American dreams is being able to leave his job 9 to 5 start building a business working at home. More and more do their dream. But before leaving this job and set up your home office, there are some questions to consider.

On the positive side, a part of your house and related expenses are tax deductible. It is convenient to work while your kids are in school and then home for them when they walk through the door in the afternoon, and let's face it, do not have a boss to answer to a asset.

But this is not always the ideal situation. Starting a home business is not always easy for families. There are many issues that will affect your family. First are the financial issues. Will you be able to handle the hit to your wallet when you do not have a regular salary? If it is a problem, consider working part-time business while employed full-down.

It takes a very dedicated person to work from home. There are always distractions to overcome, as the unexpected visits of family members who think you have a lot of free time because you are not a "real" job. It also appears that telemarketers prefer to call in the middle of the day, and do not forget the neighbors down to see if you want to keep the children while shopping. It is very important to let family and friends know your working hours. Tell them in no uncertain terms that your business is your income and you need to block the normal working hours. Tell them also when you are available.

Similarly, it is essential that you explain to your own family, while you're at home, you are not always available. This can be confusing for children. Set ground rules to follow. Let them know your working hours and tell them you expect not to be disturbed. But sometimes, the surprise by leaving early and do something fun with them!

Here are some basic rules that will help you and your family face the new situation work.

* Make sure everyone knows not to answer your business phone. This will prevent a number of ways. You'll be sure to always get your messages. Children are never good to get all the details. You create an image much more professional if you answer your own phone.

* If you're children are typical kids, they want to "borrow" your office supplies. Give them their own office supply center elsewhere in the house! Otherwise, you start to lose your equipment if necessary.

* Set a work schedule at the beginning of each week and displayed in a conspicuous place so family members can check your schedule to see when you are available.

Although these issues can and will doubtless arise, work at home is still the American dream for many people. Learn how to establish and, above all, respect the limits of family, friends and clients to make your business more complicated.
