Make your stay in hospital More Like Home When you are admitted to hospital for tests or surgery, there are things you can bring home to help you be more comfortable. Your gown to cover the hospital gown short, for example, you may feel warmer and less exposed. Slippers or favorite socks keep your feet warm. You can bring your own pillow or a soft bed jacket. Although the hospital will provide toiletries, you may prefer to use your own. You can make dry shampoo, or your favorite shampoo and conditioner, skin lotion and hair. Do not use heavily perfumed items in case you are placed in a room with a chemically sensitive person. Although your room may have a TV, you can have a portable DVD player and some of your favorite movies. Humour can help cure, then it would be a good time to indulge your funny bone. If friends or family want to find a good gift for you, you can suggest books and magazines. Some people find that a good mystery novel or going to absorb their attention. You can also listen to your favorite music CD or listen to the radio to talk about things that you will relieve your stress and give you the strength to help with recovery. It can be very difficult to rest overnight in the hospital because of the noise and the amount of light. For this reason, you might consider wearing a sleep mask and earplugs. Bring a 2 - or 3-day supply of your medications in their labeled bottles. Give them to nurses for your doctor to review. If you make more than 2 - or 3 - day supply, the hospital may refuse to administer these drugs to you to liability issues, and they could be lost before they will be returned. If you do not bring your own medicine, the hospital may have to fill prescriptions for you and sometimes it can take time and additional costs as possible. Remember that there will be many times when you're not in your room or sleeping, do not keep valuables, cash, keys, driver's license, social security cards or sickness insurance in your room. Once you have been admitted, ask your friend or family member remove your personal information cards and valuables in a safe place. It can be very stressful to be in the hospital. Think of something to make you more comfortable to help you in your recovery. Remember to bring items to make you feel more comfortable, things to entertain you, prescription drugs for medical examination, and protect your personal data.
