Building an HTPC. What is the minimum speed of the processor play640x480 near DVD quality of divx wondows xp? I have hundreds of DVDs, and I try to build a HTPC to keep backups of my dvds to divx plya by my TV, to put most of these in the closet (I do not want to pirate DVDs online from I have the money to pay them). I have a number of powerful computers and try to build a HTPC machine to watch movies in DivX. I think I want to make a media server for the rest of my laptop.
I plan to use atleast 500 MB hard disk.
DVD burner
probably a super microfly
MX4000 64MB AGP vid card
256 MB of RAM (I do not think I need a lot more here than to do this)
I have an old Gigabyte GA-5AX mobo socket 7 hanging out with a K6-2 550MHz chip.
Will that be enough? otherwise what is the minimum I need - I'd rather spend money on storage Procesor speed for this project.
The processor is the lowest I have others that it was a P4 1.8 in my Mame arcade, but I think it's a bit much for this project.
P4 1.8 Ghz is a lot, but even thinking about a 500 MB hard disk. which is a gigabyte and a half, and you can not even install your operating system. Get 120 gigabytes or more hard disk.
