What can I do to help dry my laptop? Good bit of a situation here. I have my thesis within 3 weeks and (stupidly I know) have not sustained for some time (about 3 months) then need the data from the laptop.
On my way to the library today a can of soft drink energy was drilled and tapped into my bag all over my laptop. Now, this is not very wet (ie not run out of him) and I wiped down (outside) with toilet paper and tried to turn it . He started then died to protect the data I (and again, foolishly) tried to drop a few times to see what the hell was going on. Have now left alone for several hours and removing the battery (which was dry, as has been the region).
My bf works in the computer and will try to get data out of it, and I have insurance that covers the laptop itself, but need to get the data out now to my limit.
Any suggestions that I could do to help recover the data? I am still so in the library do not have a freezer and will not be back for 5 hours. I realize there is probably little you can suggest, but I am panicking loads and will try most things. Thank you.
are they a radiator in the library .. ontop of their place and leave it for an hour or roatating time to time ... Do u take the battery and let it cool for 30 minutes to avoid overheating .. Good luck
Do not put the laptop in the freezer, so you can destroy the LCD!
soda is very corrosive, so you'd better take it outside and thoroughly clean the tracks where the drink came, if the keyboard, it will be sticky forever! You can be washed in hot soapy water, but it takes days to dry properly. Do not wash the motherboard or the screen, there are too many places where water can penetrate the interior water tight and no parts will be damaged.
I suggest you take the hard drive of the machine, go to a local PC store with HD in the hand and tell them you want an external box to fit the car. Connect and download all data from your hard drive to another PC or laptop, even a USB drive, you can then work on the data from your laptop when dry a little (hopefully).
