You do not lack activities to add to your travel planner on the road if you plan around a winter festival. While some are scenic drives through a myriad of lights, animation, include many other activities for children and adults.

The following festivals stretch alphabetically from east to west and from November to February. Who knows, you might even find shopping from home and there make this shop a road trip and play.

CALGARY Winter Festival in Calgary, Alberta: Hardening of depression in February - Designed originally in February 1989 as relief hangover throughout the year in Calgary were achieved after hosting the 1988 Olympic Games winter festival of 11 days has become one of the favorite events in Calgary. This celebration of all the snow, freezing and cold, includes ice sculpture contests, human curling championships, music, clowns, winter crafts, snowboarding demonstrations and more. Most events are free and are held in various locations around the city. And despite the theme of the festival, many are held indoors or in heated tents.

Winter Festival of Lights in Niagara Falls, Canada: Making light of the Family Fun - Billed as Canada's largest festival of light, this annual event brings together incredible landscape lighting with live concerts, parades, fireworks, and the celebration of a spectacular year's Eve broadcast live across the world all with the backdrop of waterfalls. The festival will begin with several weekend Disney shows, making this event a perfect family outing. In addition, there is the annual Niagara Talent Showcase, candles in the park, and a tribute to Elvis. BONUS: All events are free from November though January.

Winter Festival & Parade of Lights in Grand Junction, Colorado: This annual parade in December floats, music, happy holidays and events, and thousands of Christmas lights sparkling.

ELY Winter Festival in Ely, Minnesota: This annual festival is held in February and has ten days of fun activities, including snow sculpture, dog sledding, snowmobiling, exhibitions, Bal Mukluk, a variety of great food and a craft fair.

Christmas Lights SHOW in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania: Visit the famous light show that began in 1955 and has since become one of the most cherished traditions of Philadelphia. Originally created for Wanamaker, he continued to create beautiful displays Grand Court, which had helped make famous Wanamaker. Musical entertainment includes swing, pop and blues, and the United States Air Force Band, Liberty. Activities are held at various locations in the city.

Winter Festival of Lights in Wheeling, West Virginia: It lasts from November to January, this event became the nation's largest holiday light show and attracts over one million visitors per year. This is an amazingly 6-mile, 50 screens and covers over 300 hectares and using more than one millionth.
